Identify Software Announces Availability of Integration with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team System
New AppSight Integration delivers the first problem resolution system for Microsoft’s collaborative development environment
SD West Conference and NEW YORK, March 16, 2006 – Identify Software, a Premier member of the Visual Studio Industry Partner (VSIP) program, today announced availability of the integration of AppSight™, its innovative Application Problem Resolution System, with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team System. AppSight enhances Visual Studio 2005 Team System by automating and accelerating the tasks of application problem resolution, one of the most time-consuming and costly processes of lifecycle application management.
AppSight is the first and only problem resolution system for applications built with Microsoft technologies. AppSight fully supports applications that use a mix of Microsoft .NET Framework-based managed code and legacy unmanaged code, such as COM objects. The solution enables development teams to quickly uncover the root cause of application problems, and has been proven to eliminate up to 80 percent of the cycle time traditionally consumed by root cause analysis. AppSight monitors actual application execution (in production, quality assurance, production, or development) and automatically detects faults and performance issues in software applications. The system simultaneously captures a synchronized, real-time log of user actions, system events, performance metrics, configuration data, and code execution flow – much like the “black box” flight recorder on an aircraft captures a real-time record of a flight.

AppSight is integrated with Visual Studio 2005 Team System through the addition of embedded user interfaces and new workflows. While testers execute manual and automated tests in Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for Software Testers, AppSight’s Black Box software transparently captures a complete and synchronized record of application behavior. When a problem is uncovered, the resulting AppSight Black Box log file obviates the time-consuming tasks of problem replication and documentation, which can account for up to 30 percent of a test engineer’s time. The AppSight Black Box log files are automatically linked to Work Items and are saved in the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server to facilitate communication and collaboration between test engineers and developers.
Developers working within Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition for Software Developers can review the Black Box log files with AppSight’s root cause analysis capabilities. AppSight completely eliminates the need for developers to reproduce problems found in the quality assurance (QA) lab, and eradicates the challenge of difficult to reproduce or “irreproducible” problems that frequently plague the QA process.
AppSight can also be deployed in production, providing automated problem capture capabilities with communication back to development teams. When a problem occurs, the AppSight Black Box sends an alert to the Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 operator console and automatically stores full problem data, creating a Work Item, in Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server. Developers then analyze the logs to determine the root cause of problems that occurred in the production environment. By capturing and transferring all required data from the production environment into the hands of the development team, Identify minimizes fingerpointing and accelerates problem resolution cycles, enabling developers to focus on development, rather than spend cycles on problem solving.
