Workshare Turns to BMC AppSight to Enable Swift Resolution of Live Application Problems

Unique technology enables a 62 percent reduction in time to resolution

NEW YORK, August 15, 2006 – BMC Software announced that UK-based Workshare, the industry-leading information security company, has deployed BMC AppSight™ software to speed triage and resolution of customer support issues and deliver on the company’s commitment to outstanding customer service.

Workshare, which boasts 900,000 users in over 5,500 organizations across 65 countries, specializes in software that enables the secure, accurate, and compliant production and exchange of high-value business documents. “Workshare solutions are often integrated with other systems, such as email and document management,” said Gene Myers, VP of Product Development for Workshare. “The complexity of each customer’s unique operational environment can make it very difficult to determine the root cause of any problem our customers might experience”.

Workshare is deploying BMC AppSight’s patented Black Box software technology to record actual application execution in the remote customer environment and capture a synchronized, real-time log of user actions, system events, performance metrics, configuration data, and code execution flow – much like the “black box” flight recorder on an aircraft captures a real-time record of a flight. BMC AppSight offers the problem resolution team role-specific views to analyze the information captured by the Black Box to rapidly pinpoint the root cause of problems related to performance, misconfiguration, coding errors, or user mistakes.

“Because BMC AppSight captures a full record of application execution, application configuration, system resources, and end-user inputs, it eliminates the need to recreate the environment and reproduce the problem in order to resolve it,” said Myers. “BMC AppSight gives us an unprecedented ability to quickly hone in and resolve software glitches. And it’s a real savior when the problem the customer is experiencing can’t be reproduced in our labs.”

Workshare has fully integrated BMC AppSight Black Box into its key business applications: Workshare Professional and Workshare Protect Enterprise Suite. In addition to using BMC AppSight for customer support, Workshare is also using the solution in development to resolve quality problems and code inefficiencies faster. BMC AppSight has also delivered value by enhancing collaboration and communication among Workshare’s geographically dispersed development and testing teams.

“Over a six-month period, AppSight helped us reduce our average time to resolution by 62.5 percent” said Workshare Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Barrie Hadfield. “Not only does BMC AppSight deliver results from a purely economic perspective, it helps us deliver quality applications faster, gives a strong boost to our customer satisfaction, and enhances our brand image. We consider BMC AppSight to be a true enabler of competitive advantage for our business.”
